Coordinating Active Agents in Open Systems

چکیده
The eld of agent oriented programming (AOP) recently emerged from its object{ oriented roots. Whereas the beneets of object{orientation nowadays are widely used in AOP, modeling of communication in multi{agent systems (MAS) still lacks adequate abstractions. Currently considered approaches like RM{ODP, CORBA, or languages like Java introduce object{orientation to inter{agent communication while unfortunately providing only rather low{level communication abstractions. This work introduces Objective Linda, a coordination model especially designed for the needs of communication between active agents in open systems. We present how Objective Linda can be used as a suitable platform for MAS and illustrate this on an example of a traac scenario.

Designing a Coordination Model for Open Systems
Coordination models for closed concurrent systems like Linda and Gamma have been well established during the last few years. Closed systems typically are planned ahead and consist only of active components the behaviour of which is known in advance. In contrast, open systems are inherently heterogeneous and dynamically change their con-guration over time. Models for coordinating software agents...
متن کاملA bi-level programming approach to coordinating pricing and ordering decisions in a multi-channel supply chain
This paper investigates the Stackelberg equilibrium for pricing and ordering decisions in a multi-channel supply chain. We study a situation where a manufacturer is going to open a direct online channel in addition to n existing traditional retail channels. It is assumed that the manufacturer is the leader and the retailers are the followers. The situation has a hierarchical nature and...
متن کاملCoordinating Agents in Organizations Using Social Commitments
One of the main challenges faced by the multi-agent community is to ensure the coordination of autonomous agents in open heterogeneous multi-agent systems. In order to coordinate their behaviour, the agents should be able to interact with each other. Social commitments have been used in recent years as an answer to the challenges of enabling heterogeneous agents to communicate and interact succ...
متن کاملCapability-based coordination for open distributed systems
The tuple-space based model, also known as Linda, offers an alternative to the conventional point-to-point communication framework with regard to coordinating and synchronising agents’ activities. The shared data space provides a medium for communication and facilitates the coordination among the interacting agents. The clear separation between the coordination and the computation concerns reli...
متن کاملCommunicating Open Systems: Extended Abstract
Just as conventional institutions are organisational structures for coordinating the activities of multiple interacting individuals, electronic institutions provide a computational analogue for coordinating the activities of multiple interacting software agents. In this paper, we argue that open multi-agent systems can be effectively designed and implemented as electronic institutions, for whic...
